Events during JULY 2006.
16th July 2006. Service of Rememberance, at the Cenotaph, Whitehall, Belgian National Day. Members of the Belgian
Armed Forces, The Amicale, together with many other ex-service organisations were joined at Horseguards Parade by members
of the Countess Mountabatten's Legion of Frontiersmen and the Legion of Frontiersmen Volunteer Reserve, to remember all those
that fell during the two World Wars, and in conflicts since then. The Ambassador for Belgian was in attendance.
17th July 2006.
Commissioner P. Murray-Hoodless attended Brookwood Military Cemetery, and laid a wreath for the LFVR at the graves of the
Belgian fallen, in company with H.E. Baron Thierry du Gruben the Belgian Ambassador. The wreath laying ceremony was attended
by members of The Amicale, and various British Veteran organisations together their Standards. After the ceremony the Commissioner
attended in the company of the Ambassador an informal luncheon, later that afternoon he was invited to attend a Reception
at the Ambassador's Residence. A special vote of thanks must be registered for the manner in which the two day event was
organised by Colonel Trustrum-Eve.
In September of last year (2006)-
Commissioner Paul Murray-Hoodless was offered the Honorary Presidency of the European Paratroopers Association,
and in his capacity of Commissioner-in-Chief of the LFVR Multinational Airborne Brigade, he was also honoured with the presentation,
to him, of the Honor Eurpoean Wings, which only a few people in Europe have received. One of the recipients
of this award is the Commander of the Portuguese Rapid Reaction Brigade, Major General Edorado Pinto, another being
Colonel Carlos Perestrelo, Commander of the Portuguese Army Airborne School. Commissioner P.
Murray-Hoodless' first act as Honorary President of the European Paratoopers Association was to sign five certificates awarding
the European Parachute Badge to members of the EPA. Earlier this year General A. Reed Commandant
General of Countess Mountbatten's Own Frontiersmen accepted the offer to become an Honorary Commissioner of the LFVR, we are
pleased with his acceptance, of the post.
The LFVR has now a link to the Veterans Agency, to assist those ex-service personnel that REQUIRE
ADVICE.
It is with regret that we announce the premature, retirement of Commandant General 'Ron' Potter,
due ill health. He was intending to hand over to the Commandant General elect in April 2007, this has now been accomplished,
six months ahead of schedule. The former CG has assured us that he will continue to have a strong interest in The Countess
Mounbatten's Own Frontiersmen.
Ron's retirement in no way affects his role as Honorary Commissioner in the LFVR, and
he has been appointed as Liaison officer between the LFVR and the incoming Commandant General LF CMO. Members of the LFVR
wish him a happy retirement and hope that he will now have more time to follow his own interests. We also thank him for his
unstinting work in supporting and promoting the CMO LF.
